You are not imagining it.

In midlife, cognitive changes, sleep disruption, hormonal transition, and caregiving stress can overlap in ways that leave you feeling foggy, overwhelmed, and dismissed. You may have been told that your symptoms are “just stress”, “hormone changes” or “are all in your head”, but what you are experiencing is real. Flourish Cognitive Health exists to walk through these with you and provide a clear plan forward for your brain health.

The Science Is Clear

40%

Up to 40% of all dementia risk is linked to lifestyle-related factors that intensify during midlife. Reducing our risk for dementia is most effective during the ages of 35 to 65 when our brains respond to how we live, move, eat. sleep. connect and create. At Flourish Cognitive Health, we are a unique practice that translates the evidence-based methods for this risk reduction into apersonalized prevention plan, before any memory loss begins.

Meet Dr. Amy SM Paul

Your Physician. Your Partner. Your Advocate.

Dr. Amy SM Paul, MD, MSHA, DipIBLM is a fellowship-trained geriatrician, board certified Lifestyle Medicine physician, and the Founder of Flourish Cognitive Health in Glen Allen, Virginia.

She has spent her career at the bedside of families navigating dementia, caring for them as they love fiercely and tirelessly, but quietly fall apart in the caregiving process with no brain care plan of their own. And she has watched the science grow clearer every year: dementia and memory loss are not inevitable. Much of it can be prevented, if someone intervenes early enough and with enough depth.

This is the intersection where Flourish was born - a place for the person who wants to protect their brain before a diagnosis defines them.

Flourish Cognitive Health exists to provide the medical care the evidence supports.

Our Core Services

This is for women between the ages of 35 and 65, who want to understand their brain health and reduce their risk of future memory loss.

Flourish Restore

The Caregiver Clinic

This is for spouses, daughters, and other family members caring for a loved one with dementia who need support and want to be proactive about their own brain health.

Flourish Family

This is for families who want a second opinion on their loved one’s care, or clarity about a new diagnosis, symptoms, or need guidance on tough care decisions.

I grew up in a Caribbean household, where music was medicine long before I knew what medicine was. From steelpan rhythms during holiday seasons, to song and art that filled every room. I didn’t have a word for it then, but I was watching the brain anchor memories to the joy and connection of the creative arts.

Years later, as a fellowship-trained geriatrician caring for patients with dementia, I kept seeing patients exposed to the creative arts find memories we thought had disappeared. Our brains hold on to the creativity in ways science is only beginning to fully understand.

I built Flourish Cognitive Health because I believe the most powerful moment to protect the brain is long before memory begins. I also believe that this protection looks like more than medication and checklists. It looks like music, art, movement, connection, joy and the certainty of a physician who takes the time to actually know you.

I am Dr. Amy Paul, a fellowship-trained geriatrician, board-certified Lifestyle Medicine physician. I am a musician, handcrafted soap maker and artist. I have spent my career at the intersection of aging, brain health and prevention.

Flourish Cognitive Health is where all of this comes together and is the clinic I wish had existed sooner.

Why I Built Flourish

You are between the ages of 35–65 and want to protect your brain before memory loss starts.

You don't need a diagnosis to begin, but you do have to be ready to take action.

Maybe you have a family history of Alzheimer's and have seen its effects, or

Maybe you're going through perimenopause or menopause and notice memory, focus, or clarity problems that aren't being taken seriously, or

Maybe you're a high-achieving professional, leader, entrepreneur, or busy parent whose mental sharpness is key to your work.

If any of this describes you, Flourish was made for you.

You Are Not Too Early to Protect Your Brain.
